State Senator Omar Fateh defeated challenger Shaun Laden, a union organizer, to advance to the November general election. Controversy has surrounded Omar for much of the year: his brother-in-law and former campaign volunteer was convicted of lying about absentee ballots, and Republicans filed ethics complaints against Omar.
