A safe, comfortable transit system starts with you. Know – and respect – the rules when riding buses or trains or while waiting at a stop. See the full list of rules for riding here.

Make it a clean ride for everyone

Please don’t littler on buses, trains, at bus stops, or at stations. Every light rail and bus rapid transit station has garbage bins. Put your trash in them once you exit the vehicle!

No smoking – anything! – onboard or at stops

Smoking is not accepted on Metro Transit buses or trains, or at stops, stations, or shelters. It’s not only unwanted, but also illegal. This includes tobacco, e-cigarettes (vaping), or legal or illegal substances. If you must smoke, please leave the bus shelter or platform area.

In early 2024, we recorded kids and teens asking transit customers to “Love Your Lungs” and played the announcements at station platforms.
