The cost of housing is a problem. And communities of color face the biggest challenges.
Economic data, from the Minnesota Housing Partnership, frames the issue in stark terms. More than a quarter of Minnesota residents struggle to afford their housing. Almost half of renters are cost-burdened. Those hardships mean that families – especially families of color – need to skimp on other needs, such as food and health care.
How are you dealing with the rising cost of housing? Have you — or friends and neighbors – moved in with relatives, gotten a roommate, rented out a bedroom, or downsized to a smaller house or apartment? Do you worry about whether you can afford to stay in your home?
Whatever your experience with housing costs, you’re not alone. We want to help you get a better understanding of the current housing situation in Minnesota and what you can do.
On September 24, please join Sahan Journal and Mixed Blood Theatre for a free live event filled with interactive storytelling, insights from housing advocates, and opportunities to share your experiences finding a home in Minnesota.
