Three statewide offices are up for election tonight down the ballot, including for attorney general, secretary of state and state auditor.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, a DFLer and two-time incumbent, is facing private attorney Ron Schutz, a Republican, to be the state’s top lawyer.

Ellison’s priorities are consumer protection, affordability and opposition to the Trump administration. Schutz is emphasizing fighting fraud and crime, and working on consumer protection.

This is Schutz’s first run for public office.

Secretary of State Steve Simon, a DFLer, is seeking a fourth term to oversee Minnesota’s elections. He faces Republican and former state Rep. Tad Jude.

Simon’s priorities include supporting Minnesota’s existing election laws, which include same-day registration and do not require voter identification. Jude supports requiring voters to show their I.D. and is campaigning on replacing Minnesota’s new state flag, which Simon had a role in deciding, with the former state flag.

The old state flag has been criticized for depicting a white farmer tilling a field while a Native American man rides away on horseback.

For state auditor, newcomer Zack Filipovich, the DFL candidate, faces former Republican state Rep. Scott Jensen, a medical doctor.

Filipovich says his experience as an accountant makes him qualified for the auditor job. Jensen is running a campaign focused on rooting out fraud.

Check back tonight for live election results.

Polling places close at 8 p.m. Election results will be updated approximately every 10 minutes throughout the evening.
