This month, Hamse Warfa announced he’s leaving Minnesota state government for a role in the Biden administration. He believes Minnesotans and people of color have benefitted from innovations in the way the state Department of Employment and Economic Development reaches out to job-seekers.

Hamse Warfa, the highest-ranking African immigrant in the Minnesota state government, is Deputy Commissioner for Workforce Development at the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). Appointed in April 2019, Warfa oversees the state's employment and training programs, the Office of Economic Opportunity, Minnesota’s workforce centers (renamed CareerForce), and the Governor’s Workforce Development Board.
