How immigration policy is affecting Hmong Minnesotans

Hmong communities and other Southeast Asian immigrants are facing new challenges as federal immigration enforcement ramps up under the Trump administration.

In early June, Federal immigration officers arrested at least 15 Hmong Minnesotans with criminal convictions. Several of the men have been deported to Laos. Beyond Minnesota, Southeast Asians have faced new arrests in California, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Join Sahan Journal at noon on Tuesday, September 30, for an Instagram Live conversation about ICE arrests and deportations. Mai Neng Moua, a managing attorney at Mai N. Moua Law Office, will answer viewer questions and share guidance about how affected families can seek support and what legal pathways exist for other community members. And Sahan’s immigration reporter, Katelyn Vue, will share what she’s learned covering these immigration stories over the summer and fall.
