“Operation Metro Surge” has brought 2,000-3,000 federal immigration agents to Minnesota since December 2025. The operation has caused fear and chaos for residents, with multiple reports of U.S. citizens and legal observers witnessing harmful conduct by federal agents and being detained.

Community groups, faith congregations and families at schools and daycares are stepping up to help neighbors throughout the Twin Cities who fear going about their daily routines amidst the surge in ICE activity.

Renee Nicole Macklin Good, 37, was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on Jan. 7. Alex Pretti, also 37, was shot and killed by Border Patrol agents Jan. 24. Both died while observing immigration agents in Minneapolis.

Julio Cesar Sosa Celis, a Venezuelan immigrant, was shot and wounded in the leg by an ICE agent on Jan. 14 in north Minneapolis.
