After the killing of George Floyd in May 2020, civil unrest erupted along Lake Street in south Minneapolis. Looting and fires damaged or destroyed roughly 100 businesses. Almost a year later, the police shooting of Daunte Wright, in nearby Brooklyn Center, again brought looting to immigrant businesses on Lake Street.

Photojournalist Dymanh Chhoun asked small business owners about the challenges they face during this latest round of unrest and what they are doing to look out for one another.
