A suicide bomber wearing a vest packed with explosives, followed by a car bomb, struck at at the Indian Ocean restaurant in Mogadishu’s Lido Beach on Friday, killing at least one person and wounding seven.

“First a suicide car bomb rammed into the gate of the restaurant and it caused no casualty. Then another blast went off when people converged,” Abdiqadir Mohamed, a senior police officer, told Reuters.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying details of the blast.

“I see blood and human flesh all over the walls and floor. Chairs and tables litter the area,” Ali Abdi, a waiter at the restaurant, told Reuters.

Photos of the scattered body parts of the bomber, with his head blown off, have been posted on Radio Mogadishu.

“Why would someone decide to attack just a restaurant? Such attacks make me hopeless that there is any imminent peace in Mogadishu,” Mohamed Abdi, who was at the restaurant, told AP.

Somali Prime Miniser Abdi Farah Shirdon condemned the attack.

Lido Beach is usually packed on Fridays, with Mogadishu residents taking advantage of the improved security in the city.

One person was killed on February 16 in a similar car explosion at the same area.
